Next “City Walk” on 30 June 2020

On the 30th of June 2020, the KFG “Religion and Urbanity: Reciprocal Formations” has scheduled its next city walk, in which we explore religion and urbanity in Erfurt, where the KFG is based. We will reflect on key concepts and ideas with specific examples taken from Erfurt’s long and varied history. The walk has the theme of “place-making” and foundations. It will lead us across Erfurt to historic spots and important sites with an interesting or surprising history.

You can find reports from our past city walks on this blog: the first version on “Lived Urbanity“, the second one on “Transformation of Religious Space” and the third walk on the theme of “Sacred Places and Their Co-Use“. If you are interested in the history of Erfurt and the “spirit of the city”, you may also be interested to read some reflections on “Erfurt-ness“.

The co-organizer, Sara Keller, summarised the purpose behind the initiative:

The walks explore our theme “Religion and Urbanity: Reciprocal Formations” through the history of Erfurt. The stations in the city give us the opportunity to discover city spaces and some of Erfurt’s iconic monuments through the perspective of the entangled relationship between city formation and religiosity.

The next walk is part of the DFG campaign “Für das Wissen Entscheiden”. You can find more information on the next walk here and on the DFG’s 2020 anniversary and their campaign here. Anyone who is interested in the walk is welcome to join us (circumstances permitting).

Erfurt’s Cathedral (Dom) and the Severikirche.
