You can now read a conference report on the KFG’s last annual conference on “Religion, Urbanity and Trade. Processes of Mercantilisation in Urban Spaces”, written by Adina Eckart. You can find the full conference programme here and an introduction to the “Focus Group” Mercantilisation here. The conference took place in Ettersburg from 13 to 15 November 2024 and was organized and convened by Susanne Rau and Heinrich Lang.
From the conference report:
In their introduction, the organisers SUSANNE RAU (Erfurt) and HEINRICH LANG (Erfurt/Leipzig) set the stage with a reflection on the nature of urban spaces and their connection to market goods. They drew inspiration from Francesco Rutelli’s (mayor of Rome 1993–2001) book Città vince, città perde (Winning City, Losing City), which explores urban spaces and their relationship to market goods, as well as their transformation through economic processes. This prompted questions about the essence of urbanity: is it simply goods beautifully arranged in a market?
